How does American art ultimately reflect the country's history and culture? Eye Level, a collaborative blog brought to you by the Smithsonian American Art Museum, addresses that very topic. The SAAM's pieces are frequent topics of discussion, but Eye Level also looks beyond their own collection. The blog's writers give brief bios about artists and their contributions, recap art lectures they've attended, shed light on recipients of art awards, and mine provocative subjects like the politics of art. The site's name, Eye Level, plays on the physical act of looking at art, but the blog also touches on "the extraordinary collaboration between curators, conservators,
handlers, historians, enthusiasts, critics, exhibition and new media
designers, and of course bloggers that has motivated the past and
present of American art history." Don't miss the Interact link, which leads to a wonderful collection of rich media artifacts.
